Volunteer Opportunities
Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center

The Center's Volunteer Program connects our residents to the community. Through individual volunteers, community groups from schools & civic organizations, and through our corporate volunteer program, residents retain and regain their relationship with the world outside the Center's doors.

Our Community Relations Team is dedicated to finding the right fit for each volunteer situation. You can explore one-time or ongoing opportunities by contacting our Coordinator of Volunteer Services at (212) 360-1039 or mmoryc@chcsnet.org.

INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEERS
Those who choose to volunteer on an ongoing basis become part of the Center's family.

You can provide greatly needed companionship when you visit one-on-one with residents who have no friends or family. You can teach residents the wonders of technology when you tutor in our Multimedia Center. You can keep residents connected with their spirituality by assisting in our Pastoral Care Department. You can assure that residents have access to nature's beauty by helping to tend the Center's two small gardens. You can help entertain the residents by assisting in our recreation therapy programs. You can make a difference!

Scheduling and commitments are flexible - we'll work around your needs and capitalize on your assets. No experience is necessary, just a desire to help those who are less fortunate.

To explore the opportunities, please contact our Coordinator of Volunteer Services at (212) 360-1039 or at mmoryc@chcsnet.org.

COMMUNITY GROUPS

Volunteers from schools and civic organizations support the Center through one-time events and ongoing partnerships. They sing at Christmas, paint brightly colored murals, distribute helium balloons, support holiday gift drives, host parties, and serve Thanksgiving dinners. They form pen pal coalitions, provide support for ongoing recreation programs, and transport residents to religious services.

Scheduling and commitments are flexible - we'll work around your group's needs and capitalize on the group's assets. Education is always an important component of the projects, so groups receive a brief orientation as part of their experience. And, since the Center's Community Relations staff needs time to create a highly successful and satisfying group experience, please contact us at least two months prior to your group's desired project date.

To explore the opportunities, please contact our Manager of Community Relations at (212) 360-1099 or at jbrown@chcsnet.org.

CORPORATE VOLUNTEER TEAMS
Corporate volunteer teams roll up their sleeves and get to work with our residents. They generate excitement when they walk through our doors. They erase lonely days and create celebrations. They make gardens greener and smiles grow. They transform bare walls into explosions of color and design. They share memories and create remembrance. They listen, they learn, they understand.

Away from the Center but still connected, corporate volunteers send holiday gifts with personal messages. They keep our residents current by donating the latest glossy magazines. Postcards sent during business trips provide facility-bound residents a window to the world. Corporate promotional items become highly prized keepsakes. Every day, in many creative ways, our corporate partners keep our residents connected with the community. They embrace and enrich our residents' lives.

All of us at the Center extend our heartfelt gratitude to the following community-forward corporations

  • American Express
  • Goldman
  • Sachs
  • Bloomingdale's
  • Macy's
  • Credit Suisse / First Boston
  • McKinsey & Co.
  • Con Edison
  • Merrill Lynch
  • Deloitte & Touche
  • Phillip Morris
  • Rockefeller Foundation
  • Gap, Inc.
  • The Walt Disney Company
