The Center's Nursing Facility serves
the elderly as well as individuals with chronic illness. Special
units are dedicated to people living with Huntington's Disease,
those who suffer from Alzheimer's or dementia, patients needing
interim medical care, those living with end-stage renal failure,
and individuals with special respiratory needs. The Nursing Facility
also cares for physically frail individuals with a variety of diagnoses,
including: stroke, respiratory & cardiac disease, multiple sclerosis,
and cerebral palsy, and dementia.
Rooms are personalized and hallways are often decorated
with artwork residents have created. Residents gather together for
meals, as well as for social activities. The Center's Therapeutic
Recreation Department organizes a well-rounded and flexible program
of cultural and recreational activities, including holiday parties,
weekly movies, bingo, musical entertainment, arts and crafts, and
a Garden Club. Group activities take place throughout the facility
in the Centers spacious auditorium, in dining rooms or in cheerful
day-rooms, some overlooking Central Park's beautiful Conservatory
Garden. In addition, residents may be able to go home on short-term
or overnight visits.
