This 48-bed unit, which opened in 1988,
is a highly regarded regional center of excellence, well known throughout
the Huntington's academic and service communities. Residents range
in age from their mid-20s to 70s and are in the later stages of
the disease. Each resident is supervised by a physician with expertise
in Huntington's Disease, while an interdisciplinary team of health
professionals manages the myriad of problems and challenges associated
with this degenerative illness.
Through the generosity of several committed benefactors,
the Unit has been equipped with customized state-of-the-art technology
and architectural features, providing residents with maximum comfort
and safety. A devoted and stable Family Council participates in
the administration of the unit, and world-renowned researchers study
the population with the hope of improving treatment and ultimately
finding a cure for this devastating disease.
