For nearly 50 years, the Developmental
Disabilities Clinic at Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center
has served the special needs of people living with mental retardation
and developmental disabilities.
All patients - whether they exhibit mild or severe
handicaps - are capable of achieving physical, intellectual and
emotional growth. The Clinic's staff is committed to helping patients
achieve this growth, as well as, keeping patients healthy.
Medical Services
The Clinics multilingual healthcare team has particular expertise
in caring for developmentally disabled patients of all ages. A primary
care physician oversees all of the patients' medical and therapeutic
care. Services are provided on-site, making them easily accessible
for patients and their families.
A patient's initial evaluation includes a psycho-social
history and a medical evaluation. The physician, patient, and family
or guardian carefully discuss diagnosis and review the individualized
treatment plan. This treatment plan contains specific developmental
goals for the patient and is reassessed and modified as developmental
and general health care needs change.
